The short version
- Your custody order is the one private document. We read it, keep only the schedule rules, and delete the file, unless you choose to keep a copy (stored encrypted, visible only to you).
- Your family link shows the schedule, never the order.
- We don't sell your data or show ads. Kids never get accounts.
What we collect
- You: name, email, password (stored only as a one-way hash).
- Your kids: first name, birthday, an optional photo (location data stripped), which parent they live with most, their school district, and the schedule rules.
- Your custody order, if you upload one: encrypted the moment it arrives, read only to pull out the schedule rules (by Anthropic, see below), then deleted unless you keep a copy.
- Plans and payments: your plan and the last four digits of your card. Intuit Payments Inc. holds the card itself.
- Family link visitors: what they type to plan an event (a name and dates). No accounts.
Who we share it with
- Intuit Payments Inc. to charge your card.
- Anthropic (the company behind Claude), which reads your custody order for us. It doesn't train on what we send and doesn't use it for anything else.
- DigitalOcean (our servers and photo storage) and our own email server.
- The law, if a valid court order or subpoena requires it. Where we can, we'll tell you first.
Your choices
- Download your data or delete your account any time from Me. Deleting removes your family, kids, photos and any kept order. Payment records we must keep for taxes stay with Intuit and in our books.
- Give each family member their own code, see when each one last opened your family page, and turn any one off.
- See your account's activity (sign-ins, family link opens, orders opened or deleted) on Me > Activity.
Kids
Kidnights is for parents and other adults 18 or older. Children don't make accounts, and we don't collect information from children. What we keep about your kids (names, birthdays, photos, grades, schools and schedules) comes from you, and we treat it as sensitive: it is used only to show your family's schedule, never sold, never used for ads, and never used to train any model.
How we read your custody order
When you upload an order, it is sent to Anthropic (the maker of Claude) over an encrypted connection, only to read the schedule rules and your kids' names and birthdays. Anthropic doesn't use what we send through its API to train its models. We delete the file right after it's read unless you choose to keep a copy, and you can delete a kept copy any time on the Papers page.
Security
- Everything travels over HTTPS. Custody orders are encrypted with their own key, separate from everything else; kids' birthdays, the rules read from your orders, two-step sign-in secrets and backups are encrypted too. Kids' photos are stored privately and open only for you and the people you give a family code.
- Two-step sign-in with an authenticator app, an email when your account signs in on a new device, and "sign out everywhere".
- Family links need a code, each person has their own, and repeated wrong codes or passwords are slowed down and reported to you.
- Card numbers never reach Kidnights; Intuit handles them.
- No system is perfect. If your information is ever exposed, we will tell you promptly, as the law in your state requires, and say what happened and what to do.
